During the holiday season, we do a lot of things for others.
There's thinking of thoughtful gifts, planning and shopping. There's gatherings and making time for social obligations. If you're inviting others into your home, there's exponentially more work to be done. We have added so much more to our usual responsibilities related to home, life and work and perhaps your usual yoga practice has fallen away a bit and you are left with feeling the holiday stress and intensity rising. How can we shift that? Before you join family, keep good company with yourself. Yes, by all means, practice yoga. Yoga is a tremendous regulator for me as I absolutely tend toward anxiety and overwhelm especially in the holiday season. The older I get the more important it is for me to maintain a regular practice as well as other ways I take care of myself. I have so much more to give when I've better balanced my emotions and nervous system. For me, yoga is huge for that.
Perhaps we can we ask for help from those around us so we don't feel so overwhelmed? Can others support us in ways so we can get to yoga class during this busy season or help with setting boundaries with family. I'm still learning.
