Being a creature of comfort can become more a beast than a blessing

We don't always acknowledge when we're comfortable. But, when we're suddenly uncomfortable, we know it! And, we don't like it. And, we want out of that feeling and any future avoidance, pronto! In fact, we'll just about do anything, or do nothing in order to avoid feeling uncomfortable. Our ego ends up dictating our every move and we live in fear and serving to our own insecurities. We short change our very growth. The truth is, we want to stick to what we know, what we feel we're good at and what is comfortable. There's nothing wrong with being good at something and doing that thing. But, as we get older, that list will usually shorten. I wonder if so does the opportunity to experience freedom and joy? If we choose to only do the things by which we are comfortable, we become even more ridged in both body and mind. The long term trajectory doesn't play well for me. You? If a little bit of discomfort allows me a fresh mindset, a closer tuning into my thought and movement patterns and more tools to create better ones, I gain skill and keep to experiencing a rich human life. Freedom from fear and a landscape for awe, yes please!

When we decide and allow ourselves to feel uncomfortable, we also are deciding to be free. We also end up feeling a whole lot less uncomfortable.  :)

See you in class,

Jill
