It's like a hug from the inside aaaaall the way to the outside.
Happy Memorial Day. I wish for everyone an enjoyable extended weekend. We are a blessed nation of freedom and get to exercise and experience that freedom in a multitude of ways. Since I teach yoga, I think about freedom in our bodies from tight muscles and stiff joints. Yoga also frees our minds and emotions to find calm in our busy and often stressful lives. Breath is a key communicator to our brains which then allows integrated release. I don't know about you, but that sounds awesome!
In Yin yoga, we hold poses longer. Yin is not always about depth within a posture, but more of finding your first edge and then finding the sweet spot between effort and surrender simultaneously. As the body releases into that first edge, the mindful intention in your breath may eventually allow the body to release into its next edge especially when we provide a little more breath and a little more time. In Yin, we do. Yin is calming for our body's energy and is a great practice for stress release and management. Holding postures for a few more breaths than in other yoga styles, we can work more deeply into the connective tissues stimulating release and mobility. Our bodies are also a reflection of our mind and emotional health and visa versa. In other words, "holding, gripping, tightening, clenching is physical, mental and emotional. Yin is a wonderful modality for self exploration.
