First, I accept that self care has value. It's not some sort of over indulgent treat; it's necessary for me if I want to be consistently at my best.

Second, it requires self awareness, the ability to tune into what I need, knowing that what I need is important and that I am worthy. Third, when it's connected to your overall sense of purpose, it's more meaningful and easier to find consistency. This is why yoga is a large part of my self care. Sometimes, it's movement through postures I need, sometimes it's quiet meditation and prayer, oftentimes, it's all these things at the same time. The practice allows me to sharpen my self awareness so I can better identify and respond to what it is I need. The simplicity of rolling out my yoga mat and stepping onto it on a regular basis helps me understand my energy levels, my physical pains and my responses to stress. I then can connect to the thoughts in my head and whether I am planning for positivity in the future or am I stuck ruminating over the past? How am I speaking to myself? Is my voice kind and compassionate knowing I am worthy or is it condemning telling me I am not enough or perhaps at times, I'm too much.

Self care is not always easy, nor does it have to be expensive. It does require committing to its value and carving out practices that can be regularly incorporated into your life. I'm grateful to be a part of adding yoga into yours.
