Spring

And Fall are my favorite seasons. I like the transitions and the notice of shift, and the drama! I like how these seasons remind me of sowing and reaping. Spring is nature's frenzy. Busy, high energy and beautiful! Bring on the garden and let's plant something pretty! One yoga session is kinda like that! We arrive to our mat, settle into it, open ourselves to letting go of the stress of the day and in minutes, we get to feeling good, and breathing better. Yoga is so good!

Not everything we plant will bloom immediately. Just the act of digging a hole is a practice of holding hope. Ahhh, the garden. Roots are buried. Unseen and in the dark, they spread, grow and provide nourishment to the plant above the soil line. However, the plant needs a few seasons to come and go before much new green growth is seen. This new plant is establishing. Establishing takes the right conditions of water, soil nutrients, sunlight and time. Our earth is designed a place for all of creation to establish and flourish. Plants grow and so do we.

While one yoga class feels good and immediate benefits are certainly ours, something far deeper happens to us when we establish. Consistency and time bring us a deeper sense and experience to the transformative aspects of the practice of yoga. Making shapes and tuning alignment are healing for our bodies. The more we repeat postures, the more we strengthen and mobilize, the better we feel. But over time, we begin to notice other more acute and subtle aspects of our practice. We begin to experience a new mindset, awarenesses of our movement patterns, our thoughts and narrative and how we are wholly integrated, body, mind, soul. We sense where we struggle and learn to trust ourselves again. We build tenacity and resilience in both body and mind. We begin to discover beauty in who we are, acceptance in today and renewed hope for who we want to become in the life we want to live. When we do that, we are better able to like and accept others. We are meant for growth and we grow better together. Science tells us that we are healthier and live longer when we belong to community. You belong here. Did you know plants grow better when they're next to other plants?

Yoga begins on the outside with the shapes we make in the mirror, but unseen by the mirror, is where roots establish and growth is far more than making shapes. Let's establish together this Spring and when Fall comes, what a harvest we will behold!

On the mat meeting with you, or in my garden loving Spring,
Jill 🌱
